This document provides information about the digital TV signals available to Mildura
residents, based on predictions made by the Australian Communications and Media
Authority (ACMA). The ACMA is the independent statutory body responsible for regulating
and planning broadcasting services.
As it is a prediction, actual coverage at any particular location may differ from
that displayed here and any advice should be treated as a e prediction is the ACMA's
'best estimate' based on current knowledge of the broadcasters' technical operating
conditions.
Factors Influencing Your Digital Reception
The quality of the digital signal will depend on various factors including the type,
condition and quality of the reception equipment you have in your home (ie. your
television, or set top box) and your antenna/antenna-system, cabling and wallplates.

In addition to the quality of the equipment you have, reception can be affected
by surrounding terrain, trees and buildings and by interference from other broadcast
and radio communication services, electrical devices and power lines. Reception
may also be affected by weather.
Free-to-air Digital Services Available in the Mildura Area
It is important to note that in order to receive all current and
future free-to-air digital broadcast services including SD (standard definition)
and HD (high definition) channels, a HD integrated TV or HD set top box is required.
If you have SD equipment, you will not be able to access the HD channels.
Good Coverage, Minimal Reception Difficulties
In this area, the strength and quality of the digital signal coverage should allow
you to receive all available digital television services. You should experience
no or few reception difficulties.

- Reception difficulties can occur in all levels of coverage, these can be relatively
minor or intermittent.
- If you want to improve your digital TV reception you should contact an endorsed

to recommend ways to obtain or improve television reception.
Fair Coverage, But May Experience Some Reception Difficulties
In this area, the quality of the digital signal coverage should allow you to receive
some or all of the available digital television services. Some channels may have
poorer reception than others and reception may be inconsistent.
Are you in an orange coloured area but experiencing reception difficulties?
- Reception difficulties can occur in all levels of coverage, these can be minor or
intermittent.
- In this area you may experience these issues:
- Certain channels being unavailable altogether
- Channel dropout at certain times of day
- Channel dropout when using household electrical equipment
- Reception may improve with a high gain external antenna above roof height. Multiple
antennas are recommended where channels operate in different frequency bands. A
mast head amplifier may be required. Some channels may have poorer reception than
others.

antenna installer to recommend ways to obtain or improve television reception
No current coverage
In this area there is currently no predicted digital television coverage.
How do I get ready for Digital TV if I live in a white area?
- You should contact an endorsed antenna installer to recommend ways how you might obtain
or improve television reception. It may be possible that services are available
from other areas.
- An antenna installer should measure digital television signal levels at your home
to offer advice on terrestrial television or satellite reception. Satellite reception
will require a satellite dish and decoder box connected to your television set.
- A new satellite service has commenced operation to provide viewers with access to
digital television in areas where they are unable to obtain adequate terrestrial
reception of their local licence area television services. The new service is known
as the Viewer Access Satellite Television (VAST)
service.
Where can I find more information about digital TV antenna installation?
Two handbooks have been developed to assist with digital TV antenna systems.
- The Digital TV Antenna Systems Handbook
was jointly issued by the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) in co-operation
the Digital Switchover Taskforce and television-associated industries. The handbook
would assist developers, owners, managers and tenants of buildings with shared antenna
systems prepare for digital television switchover.
- The Digital TV Antenna Systems for Homes
Handbook provides guidance on the conversion of free-to-air analog TV systems
in single dwellings so that they can receive free-to-air digital TV transmissions.
Single dwellings include houses and other properties with stand alone antenna systems.
