Household Assistance Scheme (HAS)
The Household Assistance Scheme (HAS) has been created to help some Australians make the switch to digital TV. It's designed to provide practical assistance to older Australians, veterans and people with disabilities (or their carers).
If you're eligible, your assistance may include:
-
a high definition digital set-top box
-
installation of the box by a government contracted installer
-
a demonstration of how it works
-
12 month warranty, service and technical support free of charge.
To check if you are eligible, see Eligibility.
If you are eligible, and wish to apply, see Applying.
When is the HAS available in my area?
It depends on your location. There are two ways to find out:
If you are eligible, you can receive the HAS as soon as applications open in your area. We strongly encourage you to apply without delay.
What if the HAS is already available in my area?
If the HAS is available in your area, you should have received a letter inviting you to apply. If you haven't received a letter, call the
Department of Human Services on
1800 556 443 to check if you're eligible. The scheme will close one month after switchover in each region.
We strongly encourage you to
apply as soon as you receive your letter so you can enjoy the benefits of digital TV before switchover. If you wait until close to the switchover date, it may not be possible to schedule your appointment before switchover.
