How do I switch?
There are different ways you can switch – by either converting
or upgrading your existing equipment. Use our interactive tool below, or read the
step by step instructions to find the best way for you to become digital ready.

To keep receiving free-to-air TV after the digital switchover in your area you will need a television able to receive digital signals.
You have three options:

A set top box
Option 2
A TV with
in-built
digital tuner
Option 3

need to do to be able to watch or record digital TV
Step-by-step guide to digital switchover
-
Check whether digital TV is available in your area
Digital TV is currently available in most areas, but your local broadcaster can confirm exactly what is currently available in your area.
-
Check what equipment you will need
You can connect a digital set top box or digital TV recorder to your existing analog television. You can also upgrade to a television with an integrated digital tuner. If you already have a digital set top box, digital TV recorder or an integrated digital TV, you should be receiving digital signals, and will not have to do anything.
-
Choose the equipment
A logo and labelling scheme has been developed by the Australian Government to help you switch. It informs you which TVs and set top boxes will receive high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) digital TV signals, and which TVs require a set top box to receive digital free-to-air television.
Retailers participating in the Australian Government Retail Advisor Scheme will have Digital Advisors who can provide you with more information. Digital Advisors have completed an assessment program and will wear a badge displaying the Government‘s ‘Get Ready for Digital TV’ logo, their name and when their Digital Advisor status expires.
Digital Advisors can provide you with information about the Australian Government Digital Switchover Labelling Scheme and when switchover will happen in your local area, as well as the full range of options to get digital ready.
- Can't get it to work?
- Check your cables are in good condition and connected properly.
- If you use an indoor antenna now, you may need to replace it with an external antenna
to get a reliable digital signal.
- Check your external antenna. You may need the help of an antenna installer.
- If problems still exist, ask an antenna installer to investigate whether antenna replacement is required.
- Shared antenna system
If you live in a flat, unit or building that uses a shared antenna system, check
with your body corporate/strata manager or facilities manager whether the building
is digital ready.
The Digital TV Antenna Systems Handbooks provide
guidance to planning, installation and modification of free-to-air digital TV antenna
systems.
