Digital switchover milestone: Household Assistance Scheme reaches 50,000 installations
People say that a change is often as good as a holiday. Just ask Rockhampton residents Sidney and Yvonne Sanderson who were recently recognised as the 50,000th recipients of the Household Assistance Scheme after having made the switch to digital TV.

“The 50,000th HAS install in Rockhampton marks a significant milestone in the evolution to digital TV in Australia,” Senator Stephen Conroy, Minister for the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, explained.
The local Rockhampton community, including MP Ms Kirsten Livermore, celebrated this milestone in style at the Sanderson’s home, complete with a cake to mark the occasion.
Together with their children and 12 grandchildren, the Sanderson’s can now enjoy all the benefits of digital TV – including additional channels, improved picture and sound and the ability to watch TV in widescreen.
With the help of local technician Warren Hayden who installed the service, the Sanderson’s are now ready for when regional Queensland switches to digital only TV on 6 December 2011.
